I have been excited for days for this runway show. After Day one of realizing the cold, hard, truth about the LFW, I was mentally prepared for this show or so I thought. Let’s start at the beginning though. My friend Laura (a fellow student at University of Westminster) and me tried to desperately find trunk shows and fashion shows of any kind to volunteer at or even just look at without paying an enormous amount of money. Our tutor at Uni advised us to check out Eventbrite, so we did. After a lot of searching we finally found one show called: “Fashion Show Live AW20”. It was held at the Dutch Hall Venue and cost about 22 Pounds, which was very reasonable compared to the price a single ticket for LFW’s official shows cost. Obviously this wasn’t an official LFW partner, however we were still excited to check out small labels, who are mostly based on sustainability and longevity of the garments, which is imperative in this day and age. Saturday roles around, after contemplating for way too long what we should wear and if we even fit into this crazy fashion crowd. Funnily enough all this worrying was for nothing as the storm who hit Saturday in the late afternoon destroyed our hair and make up as well as outfits anyways. Although, once we arrived none of this mattered anymore. We were surrounded by amazing, creative people who has the exact same passion as we did. Many students from various Universities were in attendance such as London College of Fashion, CSM, Ravensbourne and many more. Laura and me felt right at home, a feeling I didn’t expect after my Day 1 experience. This runway show was obviously on a much smaller scale, as well as being less professional than the actual shows at LFW, however it was still very entertaining and a great experience. In the show around 20 different designers were shown, each of them with about 10 looks. It was clear from the start that the designers were on very different levels with their skillset. Some collections looked straight out of a magazine and would be able to be sold in stores, whereas others could’ve used some more work. Two collections in particular stood out from the label “Roseblade Designs” and the label “Sophie Rutherford Intimates”. “Roseblade Designs” is a sustainable brand mostly based on denim upcycling. I was very impressed that she, as the only designer personally passed around leaflets with some information about the brand and the collection. Moreover, the designs were extraordinary, designed with such creativity and styled immaculately, plus the fact that everything was made out of sustainable materials as well as upcycled denim was the cherry on top. Overall an extremely impressive collection. The second collection I adored was by the label “Sophie Rutherford Intimates”. Although the start was a bit wonky, where some models weren’t sure when to walk, walked barefoot etc., the overall show was remarkable. The intricate designs and the high quality of the lingerie were clearly visible even from great a distance, which really says something about the garments. The models were beautifully styled with an etherial touch, which made the whole show less sexual and more elegant. Overall, the whole evening was extremely fun and I will never forget attending my first runway show.
